Have you ever been walking between Washington and Fayette Streets in downtown Syracuse and noticed a desolate, primarily concrete stretch with a few trees? Well this area is known as Perseverance Park. This rather dull space is expected to be renovated by this time next year. Originally, the plan required millions of dollars, but since then officials have scaled down that impractical goal and established a realistic short term project that will revitalize the southern half of the park, adding flower beds, picnic tables, and benches. Ideas for the northern half of the block include merging the half with the parking lot next door and selling it to a developer.
Despite the current dull layout of the park, it is a prominent gathering area. Passing through you may see “food carts, music, and often protests or rallies.” With a generous flow of people, it is no wonder the city wants to make it a more welcoming atmosphere! Looking forward to seeing the transformation.
