A date has been set! Or has it? Syracuse University Athletic Director John Wildhack announced on Tuesday that the Carrier Dome’s roof will begin replacement on March 1, 2020. However, later in the day, the University announced, through Sarah Scalese, Associate Vice President of University Communications, that the construction timeline remained in flux and that a more definite timeline would be released in the fall.
“As we look toward 2020, really beginning March 1 of 2020, athletics will vacate the Dome so that we can begin the heavy lift on the roof project,” Wildhack said. The upshot of that decision is that the lacrosse teams will be forced to play their games outside. However, with Scalese's update later in then day, that may not be the case.
The University’s decision to replace the iconic roof with a new fixed roof will cost $105 million. Additional improvements in accessibility for the Dome will cost $100 million. In closing, I guess we will still have to wait a little longer to find out the exact date that the Dome's roof will be replaced, right?
