2019 Syracuse Jazz Fest Still Faces Uncertainty Due To Funding Issues

According to Frank Malfitano, Syracuse Jazz Fest Executive Director, the status for this year’s festival is still unclear. Malfitano is looking for long term financial support for the Jazz Fest after it was cancelled last year due to lack of funding.

Several long term financial commitments ended in 2017, and while Malfitano said the festival has money, he said there is just not enough money to move forward. He would like to raise $2 to 2.5 million to ensure the festival is viable for years to come. Malfitano would love to put on the festival this year and said they are ready to go with the next Jazz Fest is the funding is secured “Nothing would please us more than to be able to stage the 36th edition of Syracuse Jazz Fest this summer in 2019,” Malfitano said.

Jazz Fest has been a Syracuse tradition since 1983 with Malfitano at the helm. He loves the festival and it has flourished under his direction. Let’s hope he can find some community-minded corporate sponsors who can see fit to help him bring this fantastic music extravaganza back this summer and for years to come!
