The dog days of summer will begin to take its toll starting today when Central New York, and the eastern part of the country, will be experience its first real blast of summertime heat and humidity. The dog days of summer are typically found to occur from July 12 until August 20.
Newschannel 9’s Storm Team forecast for the next few days calls for temperatures in the mid-90’s with high humidity and dangerously high heat indexes. The combination of high temperatures and humidity will produce heat indexes in excess of 100+ degrees in Central New York!
During this time period, stay safe by drinking plenty of fluids, dressing in light colored, loose clothing, and make sure your air conditioner is functioning properly. If you have no air conditioning, seek out some public places that do have it such as the mall. Also check on the elderly during the heat wave. So stay cool, stay hydrated, and don’t over exert yourself!
