S.U. 2020 Commencement To Be Moved To The Quad Due To Dome Renovations

The Carrier Dome roof project has caused Syracuse University to move its 2020 Commencement Ceremony to the outdoors! Since the work of replacing the roof will begin in earnest in the Spring, the ceremony needed to be moved. As a result, commencement will be held on Shaw Quad on May 10, 2020.

This will be the first time that a commencement ceremony has been held outdoors since 1972. At that time, it was held in Archbold Stadium. It was then moved to Manley Field House and finally the Dome when that opened in 1980.

So how about the weather? Plans will be made in case of inclement weather, and on May 10th in Syracuse, weather might be a problem! According to the National Weather Service, It has snowed on that date three times since 1903, with an average accumulation of an inch. The normal high for that date is 67 degrees. Let’s hope that nature cooperates in May 10, 2020!
