With the weather getting colder, it won’t be long before some unwanted “visitors” attempt to make their way into your house. No we are not talking about relatives (only kidding!). We are talking about the dreaded stink bugs! Those stinky insects that love to invade your home looking for a warm place to spend the winter. So what’s the best way to prevent that from happening? Here are 10 ways that could go a long way to helping you stay “stink bug free" this fall:
•Seal off entry points like cracks and holes with silicone caulk;
•Repair and replace damaged screen windows and doors;
•Turn off outdoor lights that might attract the little critters;
•Reduce moisture sights such as leaky pipes and faucets;
•Eliminate food sources by making sure all garbage is disposed of properly;
•Install screens over your chimney and attic vents. Dehumidify basements, attics, and garages;
•Inspect any belongings that you plan to bring indoors for the winter;
•Keep all branches and shrubs well trimmed. Store firewood at least 20 feet away from your house;
•Don’t squish them! They emit a foul odor from the sides of their bodies;
•Use a vacuum if you find them already in your house. Dispose of the bag immediately.
Give these tips a try. You may find your house to be stink bug free this fall and winter!
