New York State Passes Law To Notify Patients Sooner On Recalled Drugs

New York State has taken a step towards safer prescription drugs when Governor Andrew Cuomo signed legislation that will require pharmacies to notify consumers of recalled drugs within one week of the announced recall.

The legislation, sponsored by Assemblyman Daniel Rosenthal and State Senator Leroy Comrie, is designed to reduce the risk associated with recalled drugs. The risk is particularly acute for elderly patients who are on multiple medications.

“This measure will help ensure patients get the facts about a recalled drug quickly so they can talk to their doctor about safer alternatives,” Cuomo said in signing the legislation. This sounds like a good idea to me! Any thoughts?
