Fire investigators in the City of Oswego now have a preliminary cause of a deadly fire over the weekend that claimed the life of a three year old boy.
The fire at 70 West Mohawk Street was accidentally set by another juvenile in the residence who was playing with a lighter.
No word on how old the child is, but investigators say state law prohibits them from charging anyone with a crime under the age of seven years old and there have not been any charges filed against the juvenile as a result of the incident.
The Fire Department was called to the home Saturday night and they found a fire on the first floor of the residence. They located three year old Jeremiah Haskins and he was rushed to Oswego Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later. The other occupants of the house were able to make it out safely and no other injuries were reported.
The Fire Department is still looking for anyone who may have video or photos of the fire to contact the department because the investigation is ongoing. The Police Department is taking calls on their tip line at 342-8131.
