Onondaga County Sheriff Kevin Walsh reports that sheriff’s K-9 deputies tracked down and arrested a man for burglary this morning.
At about 12:30am this morning, sheriff’s deputies responded to a burglary alarm at the Sunoco Convenient Store located at 2300 Court St. in the Town of Salina.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered someone gained entry to the business by breaking the front glass door with a cement block. Sheriff’s K-9 Unit Deputy Amy Murphy with her K-9 “Inga” ,while assisted by Deputy Michael Graham, began a search for the suspect.
Inga picked up the suspects track which led Deputy Murphy into Woodlawn Cemetery. At approximately 2:15am, Deputy Murphy tracked the suspect to one of the Mausoleums in the cemetery and found the suspect lying inside. Deputy Murphy arrested Austin Cavender of 3198 Kennedy Rd, Onondaga, for the felonies of Burglary 3rd degree and Criminal Mischief 3 rd degree. Cavender was also arrested for the misdemeanor of Petit Larceny.
